TENSILE TEST : New 8″ tapered couplings in 316 steel for OROFLEX WELL

New 8″ male thread conical couplings in 316 stainless steel for OROFLEX WELL hose: maximum tensile strength with less material, less weight and much lower cost.

On May 16, 2025, a tensile test was performed at the LGAI Technological Center S.A. laboratory (Applus Laboratories), on behalf of TIPSA – KURIYAMA GROUP, with the aim of validating the mechanical performance of the new 8″ tapered couplings in 316 stainless steel, specially designed and optimized for integration with OROFLEX WELL hose.

This type of test is essential to verify the reliability of the “hose + coupling” assembly in industrial applications where safety and durability are a priority.

The test step by step

The hose was subjected to a three-stage tensile test:

  1. Progressive load application up to 11.6 tons (113.8 kN).
  2. Holding this load for 15 seconds.
  3. Increased load until complete hose rupture.

Test results

The assembly formed by the OROFLEX WELL 8″ hose and the new 316 stainless steel male thread tapered couplings demonstrated excellent structural strength. The sample withstood the established working load without deformation, and continued to resist until it reached a maximum breaking load of 24.78 tons, more than double the reference load.

The breakage occurred at the junction area between the hose and the coupling, confirming that both the hose body and the new coupling design maintained their integrity under extreme stress conditions.

Table results:

Advantages of the new coupling

  • Made of 316 stainless steel: high resistance to corrosion and aggressive environments.
  • Optimized design: less material, less weight and maximum structural efficiency.
  • Competitive cost without compromising safety and performance.

Conclusion

The combination of OROFLEX WELL hose with the new 8″ male thread conical couplings in 316 stainless steel offers a mechanically robust, lightweight and efficient solution for demanding environments. These results consolidate the development as a highly reliable alternative for operations where traction, pressure and resistance to external agents are critical.
